Walvis Bay is surrounded by some amazing sand dunes that run right down to the sea. We know ‘cos as part of our excursion our driver Jaques drove his battered Pajero along the coast in the narrow strip of sand as the tide threatened to wash us away to the right whilst dunes sloping high up to our left offered little relief. All in a days work for Jaques! Compared to the UAE the dunes are just as exciting but with no rubbish as the area is only accessible with a permit. The effect of an ever changing coastline could clearly be seen in swallowed up fishing huts buried in sand and seal carcasses washed up over 200 metres from the water. During our drive a sea fret clung around us for most of the bash only clearing once we reached the dune tops where we peered through the clouds below. Once a call of nature took me behind a dune as one does… to be greeted by a jackal walking up to me…. Needless to say it was a relief to get back in the car for many reasons!
Have such found memories of Namibia. Beautiful country x
