Meeting up with Caroline, Brett and their fabulous kids, was an emotional and lovely start to our time in Nelson. Iβm sure they told us, after a few gins, that we can move in with them?!π. Our trip soon deteriorated as we made our way on the bus (every 4 hours) to get to the Nelson Food and Wine Festival. Whitebait fritters and local cheese soaked up the Pinot Gris beautifully and we got chatting to the producer of our favourite wine – Robyn a young midwife and her roofer husband Gareth, from the UK, who bought a 10 hectare vineyard with no experience of oenology (π€π€ͺ) 2 years ago and are producing some truly delicious wine! The day ended with Beach Bateria, Shoreham style samba and dancing to a local band in the rain! Then a further hourβs wait for the last bus home! Next day was a long drive – to Abel Tasman, stopping off for roadside fruit and veg, we scared ourselves silly on the Burrell Gorge suspension bridge and finally arrived at our campsite in the pouring rain.
