We visited the incredible Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, with their breeding programme for Tasmanian Devils, wombats, quolls and wallabies, ever more necessary after the recent fires. Exploring the area further we stopped off at Boat Harbour beach, discovering it was their surf and beach festival – with the hardy Aussie kids taking part despite the freezing cold weather. The following day we visited Bridport in Dorset, a town that grew up around the gold rush, logging and mining industries and the families who literally helped to build the town and old pier which eventually burned down in suspicious circumstances.
