To leave La Paz we climbed on board the Bolivia Hop over night bus to Cusco. As almost the oldest of the 18 to 30 crowd, we headed to Copacabana on the stunning Lake Titicaca. A huge fresh water lake filled with trout that straddles the border between Bolivia and Peru. Copacabana is the summer destination of Bolivians but in Spring the hundreds of swan pedalos were sadly abandoned on the shoreline. We took a boat trip to Isla del Sol a tiny Inca island where donkeys and llamas are the only form of transport for goods (including bricks and bags of cement) to outlying villages. On the boat back we sat on top deck sharing stories of our travels with the younger members of the group. They were hopefully impressed!! Crossing the border through a chaotic line of backpackers from Bolivia to Peru – there was little regard for the contents of our bags, all thrown chaotically into the bus.
The night bus drove on through the amazing sunset and dramatic Peruvian landscape dropping us at our Airbnb at 5.30am.
